Halos Oyster Roast

This is the perfect weather for an oyster roast!  The annual HALOS Oyster Roast was held at the 'Light House on the Creek' at Shem Creek.  HALOS benefits abused children in the community.  This event was only $35 per person with all you can eat and drink, while getting to help children in need.  Win, win!  Some of the Sponsors include +Carolina's Southern Cuisine, +Motley Rice, +Vickery's, Trinity Church, +Total Wine, 94.3 +WSC FM News Radio, +Hudson Nissan, and more.

Shem Creek is an area you won't want to miss when visiting Charleston.  There are restaurants galore from which you can choose to dine "al fresco" and you will most definitely see a few dolphins swim by.   Restaurants to try are Vickery's, Red's, RB's, or the Water's Edge on Shem Creek.

Just look at this gorgeous view and the weather couldn't be any more amazing this October.

Diggin' in!

Grab a spot at the table and start shuckin'.

A glass of Chardonnay washed down the steamed oysters nicely.

To start, find a seam and stick your shucker in.

Twist, and pry the shell open to find the yummy oyster inside.

Use your shucker again to release the oyster from the half shell so that you can slurp it back with one little tilt of your head.  That is, after you have loaded up with cocktail sauce of course.

Ready, set, go...

And slurp...

Once our bellies started filling up, we took a break and watched for dolphins.

We saw a few dolphins here and there but they didn't seem like they wanted to get their "pictures made" (my friend's beautiful Southern twang jumped onto this page) today.

Instead, these beautiful animals seemed like they were ready to pose for the camera...

Our furry friends came back and did their rounds...  This time the brawn of the two seemed timid.  Maybe he didn't want his picture taken today after all.

A silent auction, including a fishing trip, did not disappoint...

Carolina's Southern Cuisine provided the chili, rice, hotdogs, and corn bread muffins.  Delicious...

It must be time for a break when the pile has cleared in front of you.

But the oysters keep coming...

"You can't possibly want more oysters?"

"Come with me, just one more go at them."

And this is what I get for not knowing when to stop...

A shuckins, right in the thumb...
