Picnic in the Park

There are great parks in Charleston with lots of shade to gather some friends for a picnic.  White Point Garden (otherwise known as the battery), Waterfront Park, and Marion Square to name a few.  I love going to Marion Square for their Saturday farmer's market. (April through December)

This picnic backpack has everything you need, you won't be unprepared.  These come fully stocked with a cutting board, cork screw, plastic wine glasses, silverware, and the back is a cooler.  You can purchase these at redenvelope.com.

Of course our names are on our backpack too!  Wouldn't want to lose this!

FAQ's

Where are you from?

I grew up in upstate New York on one of the Finger Lakes, Owasco Lake.  My family is mostly from South Carolina and I have been dreaming of living in Charleston, SC ever since I can remember. I love it here and I feel so incredibly fortunate to be able to call Charleston my home.  My husband and I are happy little Charlestoners.

Who takes the photographs on Charlesmopolitan.com?

Mostly myself, unless I'm in them of course, then it's usually a friend, my husband, or a photographer.  If the picture is taken by a photographer then he/she will be listed and you can find a link to their website.

Can I follow you anywhere else?

You can follow me on Instagram here or Facebook here

What do you do?

I'm a student lucky enough to have been accepted into the College of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.  I will graduate in the year 2016.

Do you make money from your blog?

Yes. I'm signed up with a couple affiliate companies like Skimlinks

When did you start blogging?

July 2013, during my one and only summer break while in dental school.  A couple of friends mentioned how much they loved my pictures on Facebook (especially because my husband and I live in one of the most amazing towns in the states) and that I needed to start a blog.  In addition, I am often asked by so many friends and family where to go and what to do while visiting Charleston.  Hopefully you can use this blog as a great guide to Charleston.  Here is a Charleston To Do List embellished with pictures and ideas.  Please encourage your friends to visit Charlesmopolitan.com when they are thinking of traveling to Charleston, South Carolina.

I'm a company & I'd like to get in touch. How can I contact you?

Please feel free to reach me through the "contact me" form at the right of the blog as well as messaging me on facebook here.

For the Love of Horses

Horse carriage tours in downtown Charleston should be on a first time visitor's list of things to do.
Where you can find history, fun, and a breeze all in one.  Take the carriage ride at least once while you are visiting.  You will discover there is a lot more of Charleston to see than you could cover by foot.

Head over to the corner of Anson Street and North Market Street to find a tour.  There are 5 companies and all of the companies have very good tours. +Old South Carriage Company , +Palmetto Carriage, Classic Carriage Tours

Happy Feet!  These horses get 3 weeks off at a farm where they can run freely after working only 6 weeks at a time.  They often do around 5 tours throughout the day with a break in the shade between each tour.

How to Get Around in Charleston

Bicycles are our favorite choice of transportation if you want to get somewhere fast in downtown Charleston.

This dress is from the J.Crew Clearance store.  I bought it for $90.00 and it usually costs around $198  at J. Crew.  Check out where the closest J.Crew Clearance store to you is here.

Bicycle caravans are fun and you can rent a bicycle at Affordabike on King Street for only $20 a day.  Click here!

There are so many ways to get around downtown Charleston that I will have to write multiple blogs on this subject.  I love that Charleston has many unique options for tourists and residents to get around town.  I feel so lifeless riding around isolated in a boring car.  In downtown Charleston they have pedicabs for hire and they even allow golf carts!  If you are interested in taking a pedicab to dinner or to get around, it is easy to find them in the street or ask your hotel's front desk to call for you.  Find pedicab information here.

My husband and I love pedicabs so much we found our very own on Craigslist.org.

We use it to get our ol' dog, Emma, to the boat.  There was a time, (only last year) when I used to get to ride in the back of that.....

And more riding in the back of that pedicab/rickshaw.....
